How to Look Cool Wearing a Muslim Hijab

Young Muslim women worldwide have a dilemma when it comes to wearing the traditional Islamic scarf. or hijab. Islamic traditions state that a woman should have her hair covered, but it doesn't look cool to simply drape the scarf over your head and wrap the loose ends around your neck. Instead, style the hijab similarly to hair to reflect your personality. Here's how you can turn the hijab into a fashionable bun.

Things You'll Need:

  • Rectangular scarf
  • Safety pin
  • Decorative clasp or pin
  1. Step 1
Choose a rectangular scarf to match your outfit.
  1. Step 2
Secure long hair in a ponytail or use a hair band to keep your hair pulled
back
  1. Step 3
Place the scarf on your head so the ends are even and pin it at the nape of your neck. There are two loose ends of the hijab that hang down over your shoulders.
  1. Step 4
Twist each of the two long ends of the rectangular scarf beginning at the bottom of the scarf and working up toward the nape of your neck. Once complete, there will be two separate twisted pieces of material.
  1. Step 5
Take both ends of the twisted hijab and tie a knot at the nape of your neck.
  1. Step 6
Tie a second knot at the top of the scarf just above the first knot. Tightly pull the ends of the scarf together and form them into the shape of a bun. Twirl the loose ends of the hijab together and wrap them under the bun.
  1. Step 7
Secure the bun with a decorative pin or clasp.
